Exploring Seletar North Link

Image
Most of us do not go or do not like to go to ulu (remote) places, far from central area, and more like a deserted area. But sometimes those places are hidden gems where you can have a fresh look and tranquility you don't find in city centre. In this post, I explored a hidden gem located far in the north-eastern part of Singapore. This place is often used for pre-wedding photo-shoot as it offers unique landscape. Furthermore, since it's quite far from MRT station, less people go there and it is easier for the photographer to do the shoot. Here, you can find a quiet pathway with river and trees as the background. If you are interested, you can go down near the river, but it's quite steep, so proceed with caution. You may be wondering, how to go there then, as it is far from MRT station? The location itself is shown in the map below. As you can see from the map, the nearest MRT station is Punggol MRT station. Here, you have several options. Walk from Punggol MRT station

Lost in Clementi Forest

Image
Some time ago, I found a post in social media that depicts a rather mythical forest in western part of Singapore, that is Clementi Forest. I am amazed, is this really in Singapore? How come I never heard of it! Further to my surprise, it is near Green Corridor, a walking trail that I have visited a number of times recently. The trail is just like a straight line and I did not find any path to the forest. How could someone go there? Clementi Forest After some more research, I am able to find the entrance to the forest. It's quite near the bus stop and there are a number of buses to go there, so it's quire convenient. Alighting from the bus stop, you can see there is a river nearby. On the left part, along the fence, you can find the pathway. In the beginning, it's flat and easy. But you can see, it's a bit muddy. It's not recommended to go there if it was raining on the day or the day before. It is quite slippery. Further down the road, the path gets smaller and sm

Upgrading HDD to SSD for performance boost

Image
Shift from HDD to SSD Many of you would have heard about Solid State Drive which in short is called SSD. It has been around for long time, and it offers superb performance compared to HDD. Many people have been thinking that HDD is cheap, has plenty of capacity, whereas SSD is considered as expensive. But now, the technology around SSD has brought it to be cheaper while maintaining a good performance compared to HDD. Previously, SSD uses Single-level cell (SLC) which means that it contains one bit per cell. Then followed by multi-level cell which contains two bits per cell. Triple-level cell (TLC) and Quad-level cell (QLC) comes afterwards. The more bit contained within a cell, the slower and less durable it is, but it is cheaper. For consumer level, the trend is at TLC and QLC. Different interfaces also affects performance by high-margin. A SATA SSD normally has read/write performance of 500 MB/s, where those NVMe based SSD can easily exceeds 3,000MB/s. You may wonder, why not choose

A short visit to Keppel Hill Reservoir

Image
I was wondering on what I would like to do in the weekend and suddenly I had this in mind. I would like to explore places that is less traveled by people. Not a touristy place, of course. Not a must-go spot for tourists. Maybe people are even wondering, why do you even go to such kind of place? But here I am, heading to the old, abandoned reservoir, for a visit.   Based on what I read, it does not seem to be a tough journey. Not like MacRitchie Reservoir which boasts a beautiful landscape from above the bridge,  nor it's a hilly like Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Good for me, as I don't want to be too tired from this trip. The main highlight is the small reservoir in the middle of the jungle. To go there, we can take bus and stop at Before Seah Im Road, in which a lot of buses go there. If you are traveling by MRT, you can alight at Telok Blangah or Harbourfront MRT and take bus from there or even walk. It's not that far. Once you alight at the bus stop, take the small road
